After Stack Exchange

I used to be an active user on Stack Exchange. I was also the top-ranked non-employee user on Meta (the site about the network and its operation) and the second-ranked user on the private site for moderators. But nothing lasts forever. Onward!

Codidact: By the community, for the community

I joined the Codidact project to help build a better platform for communitites to learn together -- a platform that's controlled by the community, not a for-profit company, and one that can learn from a decade's worth of experience on Stack Exchange and other platforms. SE's platform gets some things very right, and some things didn't work out as well as intended. We're not making an SE clone to preserve the status quo; we're building the next step in the evolution of community-driven Q&A on the web. It's open-source; all are welcome to help us build the platform and the communities that use it. You can follow our progress on our blog.

Get Codidact announcements (including releases and new communities): send email to announcements-subscribe@codidact.org and follow the instructions in the confirmation message.

Communities

The Codidact network hosts several communities already, with more to come. See that link for a complete list. A few are near and dear to my heart and get shout-outs here.

The Writing community on SE has seen a lot of departures since late 2019. You can find many of us at our new home. We welcome questions about any type of writing, from fiction to technical writing to journalism to scripts. Please join us!

In summer 2020, some of my friends from Mi Yodeya launched Judaism Codidact. I'm very excited to be back with my friends again! We've got some great questions and answers, and we also host divrei torah (torah teachings). Questions and answers are central to knowledge-sharing communities but they aren't the only kind of content; divrei torah are articles (like our blog is, and like Cooking's recipes are).

If you're a programmer (and I imagine many reading this are), I hope you'll also check out Software Development. And if you enjoy a little recreational programming, check out Code Golf.

We have more great communities too; this isn't nearly a complete list. Electrical Engineering, Tabletop RPGs, Mathematics... We hope and plan to keep growing.

Personal Contact

You can reach me by email to "after-stack" (at) cellio (dot) org and on Twitter as @MonicaCellio. On Discord you can find me on the Codidact communities server, where participants on our communities hang out, and on the project server where we work on planning and building the code that runs Codidact. Ping me on either (cellio) to say hi!
